We need to protect life below water

Oceans cover most of our planet and are home to an incredible variety of plants and animals.

They help regulate our climate, provide food for billions of people, and produce much of the oxygen we breathe. Life below water includes everything from tiny plankton to enormous whales, living in habitats such as coral reefs, kelp forests and the deep sea. These underwater worlds are carefully balanced, and every species plays an important role.

Fishing get a cool drink

But oceans are under threat. Pollution, plastic waste, overfishing and climate change are damaging marine habitats and putting many sea animals at risk. Warmer waters and rising sea levels are changing oceans faster than many species can adapt.

Although oceans may seem far away, human actions on land have a big impact on life below water. What we use, throw away and eat can all affect the health of the sea.

We all have a responsibility to help protect our oceans. Children and young people around the world are already taking action to care for marine life and speak up for the sea. One idea can make a difference - and together, we can help oceans thrive.

Can you invent something to help protect life below water and keep our oceans healthy?
